Meet Randall Wilson

Randall Wilson has been working with his hands for his entire life, first as a potter and then as a woodworker. He began his career in construction in the Bay Area in the late 1970’s doing carpentry work, remodeling homes and designing and building ceramics studios from the ground up. He received his training in the fine art of woodworking at the College of the Redwoods “Fine Woodworking Program” and learned old time European hand skills in a world class super fine woodworking environment. He started Randall and Sons in 1990 and applied those same woodworking skills to his work as a cabinetmaker. In 2009, Randall moved his shop to Sonoma and added a finishing department. For the past 10 years he has been sawing and slabbing local woods that are air dried at the shop.

Randall’s philosophy is all about doing the best work that he can do, respecting the valuable materials he gets to work with and doing work that will last a lifetime or more. Randall’s three sons, are all graduates of the College of the Redwoods “Fine Woodworking Program and are each engaged in the business. They love the work, love getting their hands on the wood and love building stuff. But their family oriented business is really about providing great service to their customers and building honest, long-term relationships. With a great infrastructure, great equipment, a fantastic pile of dry lumber out in the yard that’s been slabbed, air dried and cured for years, Randall and his sons do the wood and they do the work. From tree to finished product, they design, build, finish and install on their clients' job sites.

From Randall

“To be able to take something from the glimmer of somebody's idea, all the way through completion and beyond, that whole process is really rewarding to me. When we show up to install on someone's job site, we’ve already had our hands all over their stuff for weeks, we know what everything is and there are no mysteries, questions or surprises. If something needs to be modified, or remade, they don't have to send it to Canada to get one done in six months. We just come and deal with it and there are no problems. We know what we’re doing, we’re good communicators, very fair on the pricing and our skill set consistently exceeds people’s expectation and demand. There really isn't anything that somebody could bring us that we couldn’t figure out how to do. For us, problem solving is fun, not difficult. And once we establish a relationship with a customer, they know they can call us back in 10 years if they want to make a change or improve their piece. The most important thing we’ve learned is to take care of our clients and to make sure they know that they can absolutely count on us. It’s really all about integrity.”

"Since meeting Randall in 2007, there is not another cabinet maker that I would rather work with. He is receptive to my needs and concerns as a designer as well as the needs of my clients. He and his crew practice a deep understanding of their craft and build their products with an integrity that is rare these days. His ability to cultivate relationships with designers, clients and other craftsmen he has worked with is an indication of how much he cares about the work he creates and the people he creates it for.”
